Self-compassion may feel unnatural and can be hard for some to develop, particularly for those of us who are hard on ourselves. However, by developing self-compassion, especially during times when we feel inadequate or down, it can help us feel safe and cared for. When you practice self-compassion, oxytocin and endorphins get released- like a child feels when held in a warm hug, and who doesn’t want to feel like that?
